Teaching Philosophy

Philosophy of Catholic Education

Over the course of my degree I, Morgan Burns, have come to grow as an individual and as an educator.  It is my belief that learning is a process, which I demonstrate in my daily life as I grow in my faith and as a teacher.  As a teacher it is my role to help students overcome life’s challenges to reach their full potential.  The following statements are my belief statements about teaching.

  • I believe I am a person who is learning and growing in my own Christian faith and as I work to strengthen my faith as I work along side of students to develop their understanding of what it means to be Catholic and incorporate Christian beliefs into their daily lives.
  • I believe I am a leader to my students by showing them what a good leader is.  Someone who is growing and who is not afraid to make mistakes but is able to amend problems and learn from it.
  • I believe I am a teacher who incorporates the Catholic Faith into activities and lessons that can connect with students.
  • I believe I am a teacher who puts the needs of my students first.
  • I believe I am a teacher who makes a place for all students to be included and accepted regardless of their gender, ability, or race.
  • I believe that students need to have supportive, positive and highly motivational environments to be able to feel safe so they can learn and I can provide that to my students by developing a relationship with my students.

My personal teaching philosophy is based mainly on the idea of acceptance and celebration of students’ diversity and the continual development of learning for everyone always.  My Catholic teaching philosophy is something that will never truly be complete or finished because I am never done learning new things and growing especially in my faith.
